Three major high school redevelopments with large scale Asbestos removal.
Cashmere High School, Hornby High School, Christchurch Boys’ High School Redevelopment.
All are multi-year, multi-stage, multi-million dollar projects, on live school sites.
Due to the scale of removal work, it was impossible to only remove asbestos during school holiday periods. MBC developed robust processes to continue with removal during term time, often just metres away from live areas.
To date, we have removed asbestos from over 35 buildings at these three high school sites, both for demolition and refurbishment. This required effective communication with all interested parties, including parents, board of trustees and school staff.
All types of asbestos containing materials have been removed in large quantities, including cladding, soffit, roofing, sprayed insulation, pipe lagging and vinyl flooring. Thousands of air monitoring samples collected during works, all of which returned results below guideline levels, demonstrating consitently high standards of removal and therefore safety.
MBC has worked on dozens of other school sites, across Canterbury and the West Coast, even as far away at the Chatham Islands.
