The redevelopment of this residential site required significant ground improvement.
A detailed site investigation had found that the site was located on a former landfill and testing on site found numerous contaminants, including heavy metals, hydrocarbons and asbestos. MBC were engaged as the environmental contractor to supervise all works.
Our tasks included setting up the site with environmental protections, such as sediment and dust control, along with decontamination areas for personnel and vehicles.
MBC were also responsible for ensuring all site personnel abided by a comprehensive site management plan, along with managing all waste generated. During the course of works, more contamination was discovered in the ground, including hotspots of contaminated material and an in-ground tank. Perimeter air monitoring was in place during all works and no issues were detected.
In total, fifty eight 15m3 asbestos skip bins left site, containing 618 tonne of contaminated material. Once complete, the site was handed over for redevelopment and the building of new housing.
